GUY LAROCHE DRAKKAR NOIR SHOWER GEL

Drakkar Noir has been in production since 1982 and is one of the fougeres that defined how men's grooming products smell. Lavender, lemon, bergamot, rosemary and mint open it, juniper, coriander, cinnamon, carnation and jasmine fill the middle, and leather, fir, sandalwood, vetiver and patchouli carry the base. A shower gel is the lightest way to wear it — most of the scent rinses away, leaving a clean trace rather than the full fragrance behind on the skin. Use it with the matching deodorant if you want the scent to carry through the day.

Expert Answers

What does Drakkar Noir Shower Gel smell like?
It follows the Eau de Toilette — lavender, lemon, bergamot, rosemary and mint at the top, juniper, coriander, cinnamon, carnation and jasmine through the middle, leather, fir, sandalwood, vetiver and patchouli in the base. A shower gel carries it very lightly, and most of it rinses away.
Does a shower gel carry the fragrance properly?
Not in the way a spray does. It cleans first and scents second, and most of the fragrance goes down the drain with the water. What it does well is start the day on the right note and leave the skin faintly scented, which is why these are usually sold alongside the matching deodorant.
How should I use it?
Work it into wet skin with your hands or a cloth and rinse it off. A little goes a long way, so start with less than you think. If you want the scent to linger, follow it with the matching lotion rather than using more gel, which simply rinses away.
Can I use it with the matching Eau de Toilette?
Yes, and that is the normal way to use it. Wash with the gel, dry off, then apply the Eau de Toilette to your pulse points. Layering the two is a long-standing habit with fragrances of this era, and it does make the scent read more consistently.
Will the scent still be there after I rinse it off?
Only faintly. A shower gel is designed to rinse clean, so expect a light trace on the skin rather than a wearable fragrance. If you want Drakkar Noir to last through the day, use the gel in the shower and the Eau de Toilette or the deodorant afterwards.
